Cherry Blossoms in D.C.

I'm from the middle Georgia area, and there's a really great Cherry Blossom Festival a few miles up the road in Macon. Virtually all the cherry trees there are of the Yoshino variety. We were in Washington D.C for the 2012 festival there, and it was quite a treat. Many cherry tree varieties dominate the Tidal Basin, and mingled throughout are other flowering trees, including crab apple trees. Absolutely beautiful! I hope to make it back soon!

  • The paleness of these blooms in the back leads me to believe they are Yoshinos. I have no idea what this beautiful pinkish-red blooming tree is! At first I thought it was a flowering crab apple tree, but upon closer inspection, I ruled it out. If you know, I'd appreciate a comment.

  • I believe these are Akebono Cherry blossoms. They are very similar to the Yoshino Cherry blossoms, but perhaps a little "pinker". I'm no expert, though.

  • Looking up through the cherry trees through my 200mm lens creates a delicate photograph. It resembles a watercolor, don't you think?
